Celebration marks 200th anniversary of Geyuan Garden

The celebration of the 200th anniversary of Geyuan Garden was held on March 24, gathering dozens of guests. 

Geyuan Garden is a well-preserved traditional garden that was renovated and expanded by a rich salt merchant in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It has the longest history among all the classical gardens in China, and its design features a delicate arrangement of bamboo and stones. 

A poem collection activity aiming to showcase the charm of Geyuan Garden in poems was launched, calling on the participation of people from home and abroad. 

The one-year photography competition named "Four seasons in Geyuan Garden" has received over 2,000 works; outstanding photographs demonstrating the beauty of Geyuan Garden in different angles were selected and awarded at the celebration. 

Philately albums, souvenirs and promo CDs commemorating the 200th anniversary of Geyuan Garden were officially issued at the ceremony, along with four special tourist routes, featuring regional culture and Huaiyang cuisine.　

Huang Chunhua, director of the management office of Geyuan Garden, said that the celebration of Geyuan Garden's 200th birthday marks 'a new starting point' for its brighter future of becoming a renowned tourism brand in Yangzhou.
