Sanmenxia aims to be a greener city

Sanmenxia, Henan province has already completed 78 percent of its afforestation project in 2018 by planting 11,800 hectares of trees, ismx.cn reported.

This year's task was to afforest land alongside roads, surrounding urban areas, and in barren mountains.

This year, the city will also complete a greening belt of 25.2 kilometers along the Zhengzhou-Xi'an high-speed railway and will further improve the environment on both sides of the city's three main expressways -- Lianyungang-Khorgos, Sanmenxia-Xichuan, and Zhengzhou-Lushi.

The city is also attempting to lift people out of poverty by planting trees.

Mianchi county has implemented incentive policies encouraging residents to plant pepper trees. A total of 2,273.3 hectares of pepper trees have been planted with another 1553.4 hectares still underway.

Walnuts have long been a focus within the forestry industry, as well as an effective weapon in the fight against poverty in Lushi county. Ten new demonstration bases have been built this year, covering an area of 866.7 hectares.
