Korean visitors fascinated by Nanxi River scenery

A group of approximately 100 staff members from South Korea's tourism sector visited Nanxi River scenic area in Yongjia county, Wenzhou, Zhejiang province on March 28, at the invitation of a Ningbo travel agency.

There have been three direct flights a week from Seoul, capital of South Korea, to Wenzhou since 2013, which has contributed greatly to bilateral exchanges between the two cities.

Shen Weizhen, general manager of Ningbo Tianxiaxing Tourism Company and the main organizer of the event, said he learned from social media that Nanxi River is famous for its idyllic scenery.

To help Nanxi River scenic area crack the Korean market, Shen invited people from over 30 travel agencies in South Korea to come observe its clean water and waterfalls, unique villages, lush forests, foggy mountains and rich rural landscapes.

Visitors were enchanted by the imagery of traditional Chinese ink wash paintings evoked by the river, and enjoyed the elegant natural landscapes and historic architecture as they sailed through its placid waters on bamboo rafts.

Distinctive folk art customs such as Kunju Opera were also presented to Korean visitors.

Chen Xianfeng, deputy director of the tourism committee of the Nanxi River scenic area, said the visit made by the group of Koreans is vital in promoting the river on a global scale and he hopes there will be more overseas tourists to help propel local tourism development.

According to Shen, after the trip, some Korean travel agencies made plans to introduce regular travel routes to Nanxi River.
