The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen held a special ceremony on March 29 celebrating the establishment of Harmonia College, the fourth college at the university's Shenzhen campus.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Party Chief of Shenzhen Wang Weizhong, and President of CUHK Shenzhen Xu Yangsheng. The college is established upon the donation of Yang Xiangbo, a successful Guangdong businessman.

Harmonia College is expected to play a key role in enhancing cooperation and cultural exchanges between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and will contribute greatly to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor delivered a speech at the ceremony, saying that many Hong Kong-based universities have established campuses in Shenzhen and that she hopes the governments of both Hong Kong and Shenzhen will make greater efforts to facilitate cooperative academic projects and promote communications between talents from the two regions.

A scholarship named after James A. Mirrlees, winner of the 1996 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and the dean of Morningside College at CUHK Shenzhen was also introduced at the ceremony. The scholarship will be used to support communication programs between Harmonia College and Hong Kong-based universities.
