The Zhuhai Agricultural Science Research Center was established in 1963 in Meixi Village, Qianshan Area, Xiangzhou district, and became the first comprehensive agricultural research public institution in Zhuhai.
The organization's mission is to commercialize advanced agricultural technologies that it has researched while also carrying out the public responsibilities of publicizing and demonstrating the practical uses of these technologies. Meanwhile, the research center is also an important window for showcasing the latest agricultural achievements of Zhuhai and Guangdong province.
The central Meixi Scientific Research Production & Demonstration Base covers more than 2,000 mu (133.3 hectares) of land and plays a key role in the research and development of advanced agricultural technologies and modern agricultural tourism. The research center is an example for other industry players to emulate for its agricultural mechanization and modern management implementation. The center has applied its technologies to a 5,000 mu base of green vegetables in the western part of Zhuhai. The plantation base, operated by a third-party company and local farmers, has greatly increased its rural income while also facilitating industrialization of agricultural industry, and was furthermore included in municipal shopping basket program (policy which guarantees urban vegetable supply).
