Guangzhou explores ways to serve expats: legal services

It is naturally troublesome for a person to get involved in legal disputes in a foreign country. In Guangzhou, service stations help foreigners contact professional lawyers to deal with their troubles.

Xie Qingyu, a law school graduate of Jinan University, once pursued further study and practiced law in Britain. She realized how helpless Chinese immigrants felt when they encountered legal affairs due to their lack of financial resources and legal knowledge. When she returned to China, she decided to spare no efforts to help foreign immigrants in legal affairs in China. “I hope that foreigners are impressed by the government’s service attitude in China,” Xie said. 

She therefore volunteered at the foreigner administrative service station at Liedu Street. Whenever foreigners had legal problems, the station would help them contact Xie for free-of-charge legal consulting. 

Xie Qingyu has handled roughly 30 legal cases since the end of 2015 involving civil and criminal lawsuits, share acquisitions, and many other areas. She has gradually become a well-known lawyer among expats in the city.

Xie Qingyu believes that the government could organize more activities to make foreigners learn more about Chinese laws and regulations, and she shows great willingness to contribute in this regard.
