Guangzhou explores ways to serve expats: mobile administrative services

With the rapid growth of China's comprehensive national power, an increasing number of foreigners have migrated to the city of Guangzhou. Up to Dec 25, 2017, the foreign nationals residing in the southern Chinese city came from some 220 countries and regions, and the population was 82,714, according to the Guangzhou municipal public security bureau.

To better serve the expats and help them well blend well into the society, Guangzhou has been exploring new management modes for residential, education, career, and legal rights services.

A billboard stands at the gate of the expat administrative service station at Shipai Street in Guangzhou's Tianhe district. Every foreigner can scan the QR code shown on the billboard and acquire one-on-one service immediately. 

With a passion for Chinese culture, a South Korean girl, Youla, went to Guangzhou three and a half years ago and currently studies at South China Normal University. She has been living in rented houses near the university campus these years. "Whenever I have to make residence registration, all I need to do is just send the arrival record through WeChat and update related information there," she commended.

With one of the highest concentrations of expats in Guangzhou, Shipai Street serves a residential population of three or four thousand foreigners. Apart from the international students at South China Normal University and Jinan University living nearby, there are a large number of foreign employees and business people. To build a harmonious residential community for foreigners, the service station not only helps them handle the registration procedures efficiently but also proactively inquires about the inconvenience and troubles that they encounter in life.
