As temperatures gradually rise with the arrival of spring, Huanzidong National Wetland Park in Faku county, Shenyang is seeing many Siberian cranes stopping for food and rest during their migration to regions further north.
The Siberian crane, also called the white crane, is an endangered species that has the same level of protection as the Siberian tiger and the panda.
As of March 22, Huanzidong National Wetland Park has seen over 1,000 Siberian cranes from the warm southern wetlands.
Huanzidong National Wetland Park is on an important migratory corridor for birds in northeast Asia. From December 2012, Huanzidong National Wetland Park has been taking measures to improve the natural environment of the lake.
Due to the lake’s improved wetland ecosystem, it has become an ideal habitat for migratory birds, and has seen a distinct increase in the number of wild animals over the past few years.
Every spring and autumn, it welcomes around 60,000 birds of around 160 different types, including around 2,000 white cranes, which land to recharge their batteries for between 90 and 100 days.
Faku county was named “the hometown of white cranes in China” by China Wildlife Conservation Association in 2012.
