Construction gets underway on the Pingtan campus of Fujian Polytechnic of Information Technology, the first college site on the South China island.
Costing 1.2 billion yuan ($174 million), the 530,000-square-meter campus will comprise of a teaching complex, an experimental complex, a library, a gym, a culture center and a student innovation center.
Once built, the campus will house 10,000 students. The Pingtan site will become the main campus of Fujian Polytechnic of Information Technology. After it is completed, all teachers and students will be relocated from Fuzhou, provincial capital of Fujian province to Pingtan.
Established in 2003, Fujian Polytechnic of Information Technology is a full-time public higher vocational school, authorized by the National Education Ministry and under the jurisdiction of Fujian Provincial Department of Education. The school has seven departments including electronic engineering, computer engineering, business management, language application and media art.
The Pingtan campus is scheduled to open in 2019.
