The International School of Qingdao (MTI) is the one of the most earliest established and renowned international school in the coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province.
ISQ began in 1996 as Qingdao MTI International School (QMIS) under the direction of Management Technologies International (MTI) Education Foundation, an American non-profit corporation committed to educational work in China.
ISQ is a member of the International Schools of China (ISC), a consortium of six schools founded by MTI.
ISQ obtained licensing from the Qingdao Education Commission in June of 1996 and the National Education Ministry in September of 1996. ISQ began operating that fall with eight students ranging from kindergarten to grade four.
Since 1996, the number of students at ISQ has grown from 8 to almost 400. As the student body has grown, ISQ has moved school locations three times. Locations include: the back wing of the No 1 Middle School of High Tech Park (1996-1998); the fourth floor of the Children’s Club at the Qingdao Children’s Activity Center, No 6 Donghai Road (1998-2007); and the Laoshan Campus that is shared with Baishan School, a private Chinese school (2007-Present). Each move has allowed ISQ to better meet the needs of the student body and school community.
In 2004, MTI merged with Leadership Development International (LDi). In 2010, ISQ officially changed its name and logo from QMIS to the International School of Qingdao (MTI) to better align with the other schools that are aligned with ISC.
The school currently enrolls nearly 400 students from 18 different countries and 150 staff members from 10 different countries. It offers education from elementary to high school.
