Canton Tower celebrates St Patrick's Day

Guangzhou's Canton Tower, along with nearly 300 landmarks across the world, such as the Eiffel Tower, the London Eye, the Empire State Building, and the Egyptian pyramids lit up in green illumination on the night of March 17, St. Patrick's Day.

St. Patrick's Day is a traditional Irish festival, and green is Ireland's national color. Therefore the world-famous landmarks put on the green light to celebrate the day.

Canton Tower has been hosting St. Patrick's Day celebratory activities for six consecutive years, winning international attention for the southern Chinese city. Canton Tower is one of China's earliest celebration sites for the festival, followed by the Great Wall in Beijing and the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai. More and more Chinese are showing great enthusiasm about the Irish festival and Irish culture in general.

Since 2014, Canton Tower has begun to hold a green camping activity every St. Patrick's Day, which promotes a green and healthy lifestyle. The special celebratory event was highly praised by Tourism Ireland.

Since 2015, the Irish ambassador to China has been sending the Canton Tower his congratulations and gratitude in recorded videos. This year, newly appointed ambassador Eoin O'Leary sent his personal regards as well.
