The first China made articulated urban high speed trains with a highest speed of 160 kilometers per hour was in operation on the Eastern Region Line (ERL) in Malaysia on March 13.

The trains were produced by the CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles. The core systems including the pulling, braking and the Internet control are also all developed by the company.

The trains have an articulated structure which reduces the impact force during the operation and makes the train run steadily.

As this structure and the welding technology are seldom used in high-speed train manufacturing in China, staff members at the company had to innovate during the production.

As the city is located near the equator, with an average temperature of 30 degrees around the year, high-power air conditioners are a must in the cars.

Meanwhile, the rainy season in Malaysia is nearly nine years long, so water-draining friendly roof and lightening protections are essential for the trains.

The appearance of the train absorbed the cloth dyeing patterns in Malaysia and reflects both local culture and the harmony of nature and technology.

The total distance of the ERL is 59 kilometers, linking the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the Central Station. The new trains improved the transporting capability and relieved the congestion of the line.
