As one of China's best-known commercial pedestrian streets, Taiyuan Street is one of the most influential fashion hubs in Northeast China. Following the example of the Ginza shopping district in Tokyo, Japan, the business area was rebuilt in the early years of the 21st century.

Taiyuan Street is situated in the most prosperous business district in the center of Shenyang. As a multi-functional business area that combines commerce, dining and recreation, it is dominated by comprehensive department stores and supplemented by specialty shops. The pedestrian street stretches 3,950 meters from Zhongshan Road in the north to the City Cultural Palace in the south. It is one of the busiest commercial streets in Shenyang and is often called the Wangfujing of Shenyang.
