Shanghai Customs declared on March 13 the opening of a technological innovation service office, the first of its kind in China.
The office started trial operation on March 1 and will be formally launched on March 15.
The office, targeting all tech entities in Shanghai, provides one-stop customs supervision service and guarantees that tech companies and institutions can finish dealing with administrative affairs with one office visit.
Tan Wu, deputy head of Shanghai Customs, said that the move is expected to contribute to Shanghai's goal of becoming a scientific and technological innovation center with global influence.
Thousands of local tech companies will benefit from this move, particularly those working on biomedicine, integrated circuitry, and artificial intelligence industries.
Twelve supportive measures such as specialized agencies, personalized service, and innovative customized supervision are being rolled out to better serve local companies.
Special personnel will be assigned to key national projects and institutions, and micro, small and medium-sized tech enterprises will be offered targeted consulting service and guidance.
Individualized customs supervision methods will be available according to the characteristics of imported goods. For instance, some goods that need to be stored in refrigerators or in at a constant temperature can pre-order customs clearance or apply to be cleared first and checked later.
The measures also cover tariff reductions or exemptions, intellectual property protection, and green channels for exit and entry of tech talents.
Tan vowed that more high-quality and efficient customs supervision services will be launched.
