The general office of the Guangzhou municipal government recently published a special notice on banning the sale and use of high-pollution fuels in the entire city of Guangzhou.
Up to now, Guangzhou has eliminated 1,298 high-pollution fuel boilers and has transformed them to correspond with current environmental protection standards, as explained by the Guangzhou municipal environmental protection bureau.
The bureau also specified what the prohibited high-pollution fuels in the city were, namely coal and coal products, petroleum coke, oil shale, crude oil, heavy oil, residual oil, coal tar, and biomass briquette that is burnt in non-dedicated boilers or dedicated boilers without having effective dust removal facilities installed.
By the end of 2019, the elimination or the transformation following clean energy standards will be imposed upon all the city's boilers except those exclusively used for thermal power generation, cogeneration and concentrated heating.
