A delegation from Shanghai's Yangpu district visited Stanford University on March 4 and the Global Innovation Exchange (GIX) on March 6 in the United States to introduce the city's business environment and talent policies.
The delegation was led by Li Yueqi, Party secretary of Yangpu, and included government officials and leaders from over 20 top companies.
In addition to introducing their policies, they also had more than 70 company positions and 200 college and medical institution positions on offer, hoping to attract talented overseas workers to Yangpu.
At Stanford University, Li described Yangpu's charm, vitality and potential. At GIX, he said that Yangpu promotes excellence and innovation and was seeking innovative overseas talents looking for a challenge to come work in Yangpu.
Wang Yi, founder of an online oral English teaching app, returned to Yangpu and started his own business five years ago.
Wang shared his personal experience and said that Yangpu has a great entrepreneurial environment conducive to startups at all stages of development. Various green channels are available in the district to help enterprises develop. Wang hoped that more foreign intellectuals would come to Yangpu.
The promotion event attracted more than 500 overseas entrepreneurs and students.
Additionally, Yangpu signed a friendly relation agreement with Palo Alto, known as the birthplace of Silicon Valley, which demonstrates the district's determination to meet international standards.
Yangpu aims to develop into a center for innovation and entrepreneurship. Thus far, it has brought in 190 experts from China's Thousand Talents Program, 256 overseas startup teams, and 67 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The district also houses 37 national and municipal engineering technology research centers, 45 key laboratories, 460 Fintech institutions, and over 7,000 tech companies. It boasts 20 technological parks, 79 incubators, and many other innovation and startup carriers.
