The Spring Festival travel rush ended on March 12, with Sanmenxia, Henan province facilitating a total of 3.75 million trips, official data showed.
During the 40-day peak travel season, commonly regarded as the largest human migration on earth, 3.25 million trips were made by road and 507,000 by railway in Sanmenxia.
A daily average of 82,000 people traveled by road this year, a slight decline compared to last year's 90,000.
A total of 19 temporary trains, eight of them being bullet trains, were added to meet the high demand.
A single-day high of 6,000 people was recorded on Feb 21 and 22 when most people returned to work from their hometown.
Railways and roads operated in a smooth and orderly manner despite the huge amounts of passengers.
