Sanmenxia in Henan province, an emerging industrial city located near the Sanmenxia Dam, has made significant advances in 2017, with growth in several areas exceeding projections, Sanmenxia's government work report showed.

The economy has registered slower but stable growth, with good momentum for continued future development.

Sanmenxia's GDP reached 146.1 billion yuan ($23.1 billion) in 2017, a year-on-year increase of 8.5 percent, according to the government work report by An Wei, mayor of Sanmenxia.

The average disposable income among city residents reached 27,562 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.1 percent, while that of rural residents increased by 9.2 percent to 13,084 yuan.

Efforts have been stepped up to improve the environment. The city recorded 244 days of excellent air quality, moving 25 places up on the national evaluation list, marking the largest leap among cities in Henan province.

Breakthroughs have been made in major projects. The new electric vehicle projects from Henan Suda Electric Vehicle Technology received authorization from the National Development and Reform Commission and are the first of their kind in Henan province and at the forefront of electric vehicle development nationwide.

As China's second biggest gold producer, Sanmenxia is to bolster its gold industry by building a "Gold Hub City" which will have its nameplate unveiled in late 2017.

The city also has more to offer for tourists. Tourist volume rose by 14.5 percent and tourism revenue rose by 16.8 percent.

The Yangshao Village Relics Site Protection Zone and Miaodigou historic site have been approved as national-level archeological relic parks.
