Zhuhai Airport is located at the southwest tip of Sanzao in the western Zhuhai. The three sides of the airport are surrounded by the sea with an excellent clearance. It is 31 kilometers away from the urban areas. With all the indexes reaching the international advanced level, the airport has reached the standards of the international first-class civil airport.

Over time, passenger throughput went from less than 1 million in 2006 to some 9 million in 2017. Currently, the airport operates at an international standard, processing more than 210 flights weekly to 51 domestic cities. This has led its overall service score to 4.59. The airport anticipates having 12 million more flights by 2020 with the opening of its both east and west concourses.

The Zhuhai Airport Railway Station spur linked with the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity MRT is under construction.
