Established in 1992, Guangzhou Metro Corporation (GMC) is a large-scaled state-owned enterprise affiliated with Guangzhou Municipal Government. Under the philosophy of "helping Guangzhou speed up", GMC is dedicated to operating an efficient metro system that makes it convenient to get around the city. The company is responsible for the financing, development and operation of the city's metro system; it's also engaged in the development of residential and commercial properties along the metro lines.

Currently there are nine metro lines operating in Guangzhou, with a total operation mileage of 266 kilometers, the third longest in China.
