Private center ready to arbitrate business disputes

Zhuhai's first professional organization to mediate business and commercial disputes became official as a plaque was unveiled on March 8.

The Hengqin New Area Guozhong Civil & Commercial Mediation Center is a non-profit social organization and privately operated non-business commercial mediation organization. It was conceived by the Hengqin Financial Industry, Hengqin Consumers Associations and Zhuhai Arbitration Commission.  

The center helps to legally settle contract disputes concerning trade, investment, finance, securities, intellectual property, technology transfer, real estate, project contracts, transportation, and insurance. The service is also available for civil disputes.

Mediation, which is often low-cost, time-saving, and efficient, is an alternative to lawsuits and conducive to the success of a market-oriented economy, according to an industry insider. For countries with market economies, mediation plays an increasing role in international economic and trade activities.

A government official said that methods for solving commercial disputes are not well established or are incomplete in Zhuhai. Mediation helps fill this gap and is essential in improving the legal market environment.
