The second women’s half marathon kicked off in Shenyang, Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on March 11, with the participation of around 1,500 runners from all over the country.
As the only women’s marathon held in Northeast China, the competition was held on the weekend following International Women’s Day, to celebrate the occasion and to call for further efforts in the protection of women.
Runners at this year’s competition were from all walks of life and were from all age groups, ranging from six years old to 80 years old.
In addition to the 21-kilometer half marathon, a 10-km and a 3.8-km route were also set up so that a greater number of Shenyang residents would feel comfortable in taking part in the activity.
In order to ensure the safety of contestants, seven supply points, 20 medical staff members, two ambulances and a large number of security personnel were prepared.
After the competition, runners received medals, as well as roses, from the organizers.
