Jiangyin Fortress Headquarters is a brilliant piece of architecture, both in its design and construction, as it combines traditional and western styles. Its many disparate elements come together perfectly, making it an absolute masterpiece. Its original owner was a local entrepreneur in the early 20th century.
The years after the building's completion were a turbulent time in China's history, and it was used as an important military office by the government of the time, specifically as the headquarters of the KMT, as well as the headquarters of the Navy of the People's Liberation Army.
Now, the old building serves as a museum showing the war-ridden history of Jiangyin. Sometimes, local artists show their paintings and drawings there.
