Zhuhai pursues uniform service, product standards

Internationalization of standards for countries of the Belt & Road Initiative and for sustainable urban development will be piloted by Zhuhai and nine other Chinese cities.

The city's Administration of Quality & Technology Supervision recently announced that this is the first time for Zhuhai to take part in national standardization project. One benefit is that it is expected to be a catalyst to the city's high-level economic development and opening-up.

Initiated by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC), the project promotes consistent and high standards in products and services. SAC undertakes unified management, supervision, and overall coordination of standardization work in China.

Apart from Zhuhai, only nine other cities across the country, including Shenzhen, Qingdao, and Baotou, were approved. These expect to be known as Innovative Cities in Standard Internationalization by 2020.

As part of the effort, the city will establish a tiered system integrating corporate, provincial (municipal), industrial, national, and international standards.

Furthermore, in addition to improving public service, Zhuhai will research international standardization regarding sustainable urban development in context with its own experience and achievements.

Thusly, Zhuhai could spearhead the innovation and creation of advanced standards, be a frontrunner in international standardization, generate advanced standard systems, and demonstrate sustainable development by 2020.

The 4th Plenary Session of the 8th Zhuhai Municipal Committee of CPC and 2018 government work report delivered during the 5th Session of the 9th Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress have listed the project as a top priority. The next stage will be the release of Zhuhai's Three-Year Action Plan on Construction of Pilot Innovative City in Standard Internationalization (2018-20).
