Several pupils stood out in a lantern-making competition initiated by a local media organization in the Dongsheng district of Ordos to celebrate Lantern Festival, according to a recent news release.

The activity encouraged participants to make festive lanterns out of waste materials, with the aim of promoting the Chinese traditional handicraft of making lanterns, while developing an awareness of the environment among students at middle and primary schools.

Some pupils stunned the panel of judges with their complex works, and the following are some examples.
