'Belt and Road' music season to begin in Shenzhen

The city of Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong province will host its second "Belt and Road"-themed international music season from March 23 to April 29, with more than 17 performances to be staged at local theaters and music halls.

This year's event will feature outstanding music groups from China and other countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative with talented musicians and orchestras from the US and European countries being invited as well.

Musicians will give performances in many different styles - classical and popular, Eastern and Western, traditional and avant-garde.

The opening ceremony will be held on March 23 at the Shenzhen Concert Hall. Notable performances will include Theme from Schindler's List by famous violinist Lin Cho-liang, a 15-minute bolero by Chinese conductor Zhang Guoyong, a Bandoneon solo by renowned Argentine musician Walter Rios, and a trumpet performance by French trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary.

The season will wrap up on April 29 with a grand closing ceremony directed by Shen Wei, a well-known Chinese-American choreographer, painter and director who was commissioned by the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony and the Lincoln Center Festival in New York City, as well as contemporary ballet companies such as Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo.
