Lantern Festival brightens Dongguang Street

The Lantern Festival, one of the most important festivals for Chinese people, falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month, or March 2 this year.

The festival also marks the end of Lunar New Year celebration. Several folk traditions are conducted to celebrate the festival such as eating tangyuan -- glutinous rice balls with sweet fillings, hanging lanterns and guessing lantern-riddles.

Dongguan Street, located at the east of the Grand Canal that runs through the Yangzhou city, was once a vital thoroughfare and busiest commercial street in the city.

Nowadays it has become one of the most popular scenic spots in the city, with its well-preserved ancient buildings, featured boutiques and time-honored restaurants.

Adorned with traditional handmade lanterns, the street is particularly vibrant and bustling during the Lantern Festival.
