The output value of Hohhot's traditional industries hit 96.62 billion yuan ($15.33 billion) in 2017, a year-on-year increase of 10.4 percent, according to Hohhot Economic and Information Technology Commission.
The transformation of traditional industries – including electric, petrochemical and dairy – has driven the city's industrial growth, contributing about 75 percent.
In the past year, the electricity industry contributed 27.1 percent of local industrial growth, with output value reaching 35.96 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.8 percent.
The petrochemical Industry achieved a 27.88 billion yuan output value in 2017, 21 percent of the local industry.
Progress was also made in the city's dairy industry, which produces an annual output value of 16.15 billion yuan.
Other traditional industries – including metallurgy and construction materials, packaging and tobacco – accounted for 5.5, 4.9 and 4.3 percent of total output value last year.
