Airport handles Spring Festival travelers with aplomb

The Feb 15-21 Spring Festival holiday saw 1,596 flights carrying 226,000 passengers to and from Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport, up 21 and 23 percent respectively from last year. Airport officials also report a punctuality rate of over 90 percent.

Daily passenger throughput averaged 32,000 during the weeklong holiday, as passenger flow was smooth on Spring Festival Eve and then surged starting on the first day of Chinese New Year.

Return trips peaked at 36,000 on 252 flights on Feb 19. This set a new Zhuhai record in terms of passenger throughput on a single day. It is estimated that another 36,000 passengers boarded 250 flights on the final day of the holiday.

As of Feb 21, more than 650,000 passengers were recorded during the first 20 days of the Spring Festival travel rush, with 4,841 departures and arrivals. According to statistics, no flights were delayed or canceled.
