World Peace Park in Lushunkou, the only peace-themed seaside park in China, was built in 2002, and has recently recovered its beauty after years of environmental and infrastructure improvements.
Featuring a beautiful and winding coastline, the World Peace Park was once a popular recreation place for locals. However, the coast and beach were eroded by an extreme climate through the years and the tourism facilities and seaside baths developed safety problems.
In 2015, the government of Lushunkou and the management committee of the Lushun Economic Development Zone released a plan for solving the problems and were funded with 50 million yuan ($7.5 million) by the central government.
Lushunkou then started a restoration project in 2016 with work on coastline protection, renovation of retaining walls and the gravel coastline, supporting facility construction and afforestation. The whole project was completed in 2017.
The newly built facilities in the World Peace Park have now opened to the public for free. Local residents can once again enjoy the park's natural beauty.
