A group of 32 excellent students born in Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) who now study in colleges on the Chinese mainland visited Xiamen, Fujian province on a two-day tour from Jan 26.

The tour, organized by the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, and Liason Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, was designed to "develop and strengthen the ranks of patriots who love our country and their regions, and foster great patriotism and a strong sense of national identity among the people in Hong Kong and Macao", as mentioned in the report at the 19th CPC National Congress.

The students visited the second phase of Xiamen Software Park and got a glimpse of the rapid development of the country's software and information industry. At the Xiamen City Planning Exhibition Hall, the young people were briefed on the development of Xiamen after China's reform and opening-up, and Xiamen's active involvement in the implementation of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

On Feb 26, Chen Junyong, deputy head of the Xiamen Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, entertained the young guests and invited them to find a job or start their own businesses in Xiamen after graduation.

On the second day of their stay in Xiamen, the students visited the Gulangyu Island, which joined UNESCO's world cultural heritage list on July 8, 2017.
