A teacher from Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, won the “Jack Ma Rural Teachers Award” at an awards ceremony held in Sanya, capital of South China’s Hainan province, on Jan 21.
The teacher was Suopeizhen who works at Xinmiao Primary School in Ejin Horoo Banner. She became one of 100 winners to share the honor.
Winners of the award can receive subsides of 100,000 yuan ($15,821) and will be provided with three years of professional training.
The award is part of the“Jack Ma Rural Teachers Program”, which was initiated by the Jack Ma Foundation in 2015. The program aims to offer a total of 10 million yuan as well as three years of professional training to excellent teachers in rural areas.
Following the rural teachers program, the foundation also announced the “Jack Ma Rural School Presidents Program” and “Jack Ma Rural Pedagogical Students Program”.
It vowed to invest 200 million yuan within 10 years to support outstanding presidents in rural areas and 300 million yuan to attract excellent pedagogy majors to develop the rural education system.
The Jack Ma Foundation was set up by Jack Ma, the founder of China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba, which promised to donate 10 billion yuan for poverty alleviation in December 2017.
While assigning specific jobs to executives of the company, Jack Ma will personally undertake the task of dealing with education poverty.
