Winter is not all cold and dreariness, especially for the people of Guangzhou's Nansha district on Jan 30, when a spectacular light festival lit up Jiaomen Park and Citizen Square.

The 2018 Nansha Light Art Festival, which will run until Feb 8, was organized by the district's bureau of culture, radio, film, television, and publication. Every year it graces locals with a unique visual extravaganza that beautifully combines intricate light shows with Nansha's glistening winter landscape. The festival is open to visitors every day from 18:00 to 21:30.

The 10-day event makes use of technologies such as 3D projection as it sets up themed lighting installations, presenting visitors with spectacular shows that integrate light, shadow and water elements.

The highlights of the festival include a 3D water curtain projection show, which is the largest of its kind in the Pearl River Delta region. It features two giant water curtain screens which are placed next to the Jiaomen River. Images showcasing Nansha's traditional culture are projected onto the screens while music is played, creating a distinctive visual-audio effect.

One lighting arrangement at Jiaomen Park called "light and forest" was also popular among visitors, who felt as if they were traversing a beautiful neon-lit forest.

At Citizen Square, visitors can enjoy a series of lights which reflect Nansha's efforts to build itself into a sub-center of Guangzhou and also promote the Belt and Road Initiative as a coastal city and window to the world.
