'Torch' appreciates Sanzao pharma-industry cluster

Sanzao Town's pharmaceutical array has been listed by the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science & Technology as one of 21 Pilot Innovative Industrial Clusters of 2017.

"Torch" is charged with implementing the national program for medium- and long-term scientific and technological development. It was established in 1989 to enhance the innovation capability of industrial clusters in China by strengthening service systems and promoting entrepreneurship.

Sanzao made the list late last month due to exemplary practices in the booming bio-medicine industry of Jinwan District of Zhuhai.

The town has attracted a hundred biopharma and medical companies involved in production, sales, R&D, and services. In addition to well-known United Laboratories and By-Health, it also has small and medium-sized sci-tech firms showing strong growth and innovation capabilities. Chief among them is Zhuhai Biogain Electronics Technology on East Jichang Road. Biogain produces medical laser instruments and general inspection equipment.

Meanwhile, the Jinwan campus of Zunyi Medical University has been increasingly contributing to the emergence of an industrial chain ranging from scientific research to manufacturing and management. Also, Zhuhai International Health Harbor at the intersection of Airport Expressway and West Airport Road will soon open as part of an industry-university-research system.

Sanzao is also seeing accelerated construction of Zhuhai Biomedicine Industry Park, which will introduce even more promising projects in the future.

Town leaders plan to continue building and benefitting from the industrial cluster. According to a government official, enterprises will be encouraged to increase funding for R&D and technological innovation to enhance Jinwan's regional competitiveness in the field.
