Xiamen Port has risen to 14th in world rankings, according to the Xiamen Port Authority.
Xiamen Port's international position was further improved after attaining an annual throughput of more than 10 million containers for the first time last year, according to the head of the Xiamen Port Authority.
By delivering 10.38 million containers over the past year, Xiamen Port has moved up to 14th place from 15th in the world rankings.
Driven by the Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of Xiamen International Shipping Center and a pilot free trade zone, the international transit and domestic trade transit services at Xiamen Port have seen rapid growth, an important factor in the steady increase of the port's container service.
A total of 2.2 billion yuan ($335 million) was invested in expanding the port's main channel and other projects in 2017 to make sure that 200,000-ton container ships, the largest in the world, can enter and leave the port in all seasons.
The service fee reduction and preferential policies released last year have also helped the port to attract more business.
Wu Shunbin, head of the Xiamen Port Authority, said the port will invest nearly 2 billion yuan in improving its facilities next year, when the port is expected to handle 10.6 billion containers.
In 2017, Xiamen Port handled more than 10 million containers, its highest annual total ever.
