The total import-export volume of Zhanjiang reached 34.6 billion yuan ($5.4 billion) in 2017 with a year-on-year increase of 13.5 percent, according to statistics from Zhanjiang Customs.
The export value increased by 11.4 percent to exceed 20 billion yuan over the previous year, while the import value grew by 17.3 percent to reach 12.9 billion yuan.
General trade remained the major form of foreign trade, which was amounted to 30 billion yuan, 87 percent of the total. Imports and exports under special customs supervision and processing trade followed suit with shares of 6.7 and 6.2 percent respectively.

Local private enterprises were the major contributors to the foreign trade value at a share of 43.3 percent. State-owned enterprises showed a strong momentum with a zealous growth rate of 26.1 percent from the previous year.
The United States, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the European Union were listed as Zhanjiang's largest export markets in 2017, registering an export value of 4.6 billion, 3.9 billion and 1.9 billion yuan respectively.
Furniture was the most popular kind of goods in the international market, generating sales of 6.07 billion yuan in 2017 and accounting for 28 percent of the export value. Aquatic and electromechanical products, which took up 30.8 and 17.6 percent, came in second and third.
