Some 3,000 new energy vehicles are set to be put into use for ride-hailing in Xiamen, Fujian province by Didi Chuxing, a leading Chinese ride-sharing company, marked by the launching ceremony of Blue Xiamen on Jan 10.
Lei Shengfu, director of the project, said that their distance per charge is about 300 kilometers.
Every day there are over 1,000 new energy vehicle owners offering ride-hailing service via Didi in the coastal city, according to Lei.
New energy vehicles can help car owners save money in energy cost. "It takes 1,350 yuan ($203) for each new energy vehicle monthly," Lei said, "About 2,700 yuan of operation costs will be saved for their owners every month compared to the fuel vehicles."
The Blue Xiamen project will help Xiamen reduce its public traffic pollution. These vehicles can reduce the carbon dioxide emission by 1,355 kilogram each month if 1,000 kilometers can decrease 184 kilograms' carbon dioxide for new energy vehicles.
Therefore, at least 1,355,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide will be reduced every month with the help of this project.
Didi Chuxing, the car-hailing app, provides transportation services for more than 450 million users across over 400 cities in China, including taxi hailing, private car hailing, Hitch (social ride-sharing), DiDi Chauffeur, DiDi Bus, and bike-sharing to users in China.
