Southwest China's Guizhou province has launched a comprehensive medical supervision platform using big data industry in an attempt to improve the big data system in the region.

"The platform covers the supervision of medical behavior, health expenses and pharmaceuticals purchasing, the payment of medical insurance and some other functions," said Yan Gang, director of the information center at the Health and Family Planning Commission of Guizhou Province.

Through observation of key medical indicators using big data the platform has collected information about more than 31 million patients and examined 2.27 million prescriptions.

These achievements were made possible by the cloud platform built by Guizhou-Cloud Big Data Industry Co Ltd, an enterprise owned by Guizhou provincial government.

As the first cloud service platform for the opening and sharing of data by provincial governments and enterprises across China, the platform has effectively enhanced government management and the level of public service.

The second batch of national health care data centers were set up in Shandong, Anhui and Guizhou provinces on Dec 12, 2017. As one of the pilot provinces, Guizhou will promote the development of health care by using big data.

At present, three databases including health records, electronic medical records and overall population statistics have been established by the platform.

Relying on the Guizhou-cloud platform, the province has widely applied big data technology in government services, precision poverty alleviation, health care and transportation, boosting the local economy and improving public service.
