The southern coastal city of Guangzhou, China's third largest city, held a special promotion event on Jan 23 at the World Economic Forum's 48th annual meeting, also known as the 2018 Davos Forum.

During the promotion, the southern Chinese city flaunted its position as host of the Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference and World Routes 2018, a major civil aviation event. The city's brand-new city logo also made its debut in Davos, Switzerland.

According to Chen Jie, director of the Guangzhou municipal commission of commerce, the 2018 Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference, to be held from Mar 27-28, will invite representatives from cities that share a strong relationship with Guangzhou, as well as countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, to talk about the expansion and strengthening of business relations. The conference will also provide representatives with an overview of Guangzhou's business environment, industrial advantages, technological innovation, and advantageous policies.

"World Routes is the only truly global event in the civil aviation industry in which the most senior decision makers from the world's major airlines, airports, governments and tourism authorities participate," said Sun Xiuqing, chairman of Guangzhou Aerotropolis Development District.

Speaking during the World Economic Forum annual meeting, he said that since its launch in 1995, the event has garnered an impressive reputation within the global aviation industry.

"World Routes is often referred to as the aviation industry's equivalent to the Olympic Games and World Expo," said Sun.

Guangzhou will host the 24th World Routes from Sept 15-18 this year. The event will feature a major exhibition as well as a series of seminars and forums. The city will host some 3,500 delegates, including representatives from over 300 airlines, 700 airports and 130 tourism authorities.

The promotion event marked the beginning of the "2018 Global Conversations between Guangzhou and the World", a major promotion plan organized by the city featuring a range of roadshows in six overseas cities, including Paris.
