The Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau announced on Jan 22 that it supervised imports and exports worth 3.4 trillion yuan ($522 billion) last year, a year-on-year increase of 10.5 percent and 13.4 percent of the country's total.

In 2017, it handled 1.45 million parcels of goods having a total value of $120.77 billion for inspection and quarantine, 12.2 percent of the country's total.

The bureau has been fully performing its functions through advanced technologies application and improving services to boost foreign trade.

To promote liberalization and facilitation of trade, the bureau took the initiative to develop a risk management-oriented inspection and supervision system for imported industrial products and implemented a tariff reduction and exemption policy.

It has carried out intelligent electronic inspection procedures and cut the inbound and outbound inspection and quarantine processes by 86.8 percent and 89.6 percent respectively.

Last year, it ferreted out 910,000 units of disqualified goods worth 21. 21 billion yuan. More than 7,300 of those units were dangerous chemical products worth $8.81 billion. That was more than twice the value seized the year before.

The bureau insists on improving the quality of imports and exports with the help of reformative measures and innovations in management, according to bureau head Shi Zongwei.

The bureau will spare no effort to raise awareness of the importance of quality, safety, services, guarantees and Party building to finish building a modern inspection and quarantine bureau, Shi added.

In 2018, the authority will adhere to the principle of "quality is the top priority" and keep carrying out supply-side structural reform to meet the people's need for a better life. It will also promote the facilitation and liberalization of trade and build a smarter inspection and quarantine system.

In addition, the bureau will strive to serve the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and establish a cooperative cross-border control system.
