Jilin won nine awards among all 271 awarded programs in the 2017 State Preeminent Science and Technology Award Conference held in Beijing on Jan 8.
Research by the First Hospital of Jilin University on the new mechanism of the interaction between HIV and the natural defensive factors of its parasitifer was awarded the second prize of the National Natural Science Awards.
The hospital started the research in 2000. Professor Yu Xiaofang, team leader of the program, says that as an incurable disease, AIDS has been a serious threat to human health.
The vaccine based on the results of the research is the first one used in phase I and II clinical trials. It provides guidance for other research on treatments for AIDS and other related disorders.
