Zhanjiang airports hope to give their economic situation a boost by launching six new air routes and adding more flights to Shenzhen in 2018, while also pushing ahead with the construction of the Zhanjiang International Airport.
This announcement was made at the 4th session of the 14th Zhanjiang Municipal People's Congress on Jan 17 by Jiang Jianjun in his government work report.
Cai Weidong, general manager of Zhanjiang Airport, commented on how passenger throughput has been on the rise, reaching 2.09 billion with a 35 percent increase last year and making the airport the 54th busiest nationally.
He continued by saying that the new Zhanjiang International Airport, which is positioned to be an important artery of Guangdong province, will come into service by 2020. The international airport is expected to have a passenger traffic of 10 million in 2025.
What is even more staggering is that the passenger throughput of Zhanjiang Airport is still looking to an annualized growth of more than 20 percent. As a growing air hub, it currently hosts 27 airlines which provide transport to 30 destinations around the world.
