As the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road strategy pushes Chinese companies to go global, a Harbin-based company that desalinates seawater is also making waves in the international market.

Harbin Boiler Company, a State-owned power equipment manufacturer affiliated with Harbin Electric Corporation, recently announced that it had signed a contract with Kalimantan Province in Indonesia –– its first foray into the Indonesian market.

The company is to provide desalination equipment and technology for Kalimantan to help it alleviate its local water shortage.

The project will apply ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technologies to cut costs and improve water desalination efficiency –– vital for a country made up of islands.

In recent years, the Harbin company, as the first batch of companies in Northeast China to conduct seawater desalination, has researched and developed technologies and equipment to provide a solution for water processing and treatment.

“We can customize our equipment according to the needs of our clients,”said a staff member at Harbin Boiler Company.

The Kalimantan project is not the Harbin firm’s first overseas project, it has also won seawater desalination bids in Cuddalore, India and in Qasim, Pakistan.
