The last tunnel on the Harbin-Mudanjiang High-Speed Rail Line was connected on Jan 16. The breakthrough marks the completion of the underground engineering work on the line.
The 293-kilometer Harbin-Mudanjiang High-Speed Rail Line starts at Harbin Railway Station in Heilongjiang’s provincial capital, passing through several counties and county-level cities in Harbin, before eventually reaching Mudanjiang, a far northern city in Heilongjiang.
The railway line is among the 64 key State-level construction projects released in 2014; and it’s also the most northern high-speed railway line in China. Construction on the line began in December 2014.
Upon completion, expected during 2018, the new line will shorten the current journey time to around 1 hour, as it can accommodate trains traveling at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour, and will only have 11 stations.
