Lianjiang took the lead in Zhanjiang by launching the first citywide supervisory commission on Jan 14.

This step comes as a response to the national call to create a supervisory mechanism which keeps watch on every civil servant exercising public power in a bid to curb formalism and bureaucracy.

The supervisory commission, which was set up by the local people's congress, incorporates the existing supervisory, corruption prevention and control agencies within the government and procuratorate.

Three new offices will be set up, while 10 officials of the Lianjiang People's Procuratorate will be transferred to the commission, according to the Lianjiang's Implementation Plan to Push Forward Supervisory Mechanism Reform.

The new government body will work in collaboration with the Lianjiang Discipline Inspection Commission to supervise public servants in this county-level city by looking out for graft, misuse of authority and duty-related crimes.
