The At Cafe located in Xiamen Software Park is set to be transformed into a maker space, according to Xiamen Daily on Jan 12.
The cafe was founded in 2012 by Yao Jincheng, a serial entrepreneur in the internet industry.
Different from the common romantic cafes, At Cafe intends to serve entrepreneurs, where they can enjoy free office services, such as high-speed internet, tablet computers, projectors and server testing, all by just ordering a cup of coffee. Besides, relatively cheap desserts and quick meal are also available.
The cafe has witnessed the growth of numerous entrepreneurs over the past six years and it has now developed itself into an ecological system integrating a maker space, the function of incubator and Angel investment, a typical example of maker space in the coastal city.
"It is hard to exist as a mere cafe and event hall for At Cafe's inconvenient parking lot and aging equipment," Yao said. "So, we decided to reduce the area of serving coffee and increase more working area and open workstations, which are actually equivalent to the upgrading to a maker space."
He added that the six offices established by At maker space in the city will be constructed into an incubator and an exchange platform for entrepreneurs and investors in hope of igniting the city's startup passion and improving its employment opportunities.
