Zhang Xiaodong, the former Chinese windsurfer ace and deputy director of the Water Sport Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, was elected as the chairperson of the Chinese Yachting Association by a unanimous vote.
Although native to Shandong province, Zhang grew up in the southern coastal city of Zhanjiang from where she embarked on her journey as an athlete. In 1992, she won the silver medal in women's windsurfing at the Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, which was Asia's first medal in water sports.
