Gao Hong, head coach of the China U16 team, made it onto the list released by the Asian Football Confederation as a candidate for Best Woman Coach in Asia on Nov 18, 2017, along with Asako Takakura from Japan and Bautista from Philippines.
As a footballer registered in Zhanjiang, Gao was selected into the national team in 1989. Six years later, she stopped two penalty kicks from the Swedish opponents to help the Chinese team reach the semifinals at the Women's World Cup.
Gao played all five matches as a goalkeeper at the 1996 Summer Olympics which took place in the United States and won the silver medal with the Chinese team.
