The first session of the 15th Hohhot Municipal People’s Congress was convened in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Jan 6, with acting mayor Feng Yuzhen delivering the annual governmental report to delegates.
Reviewing the past five years of government work but with a focus on 2017, 340 delegates from across the city also offered their recommendations for the new year.
Hohhot’s GDP rose from 245.0 billion yuan ($37.8 billion) in 2012 to 310 billion yuan in 2017, averaging 8 percent annual growth. Feng also informed delegates that per capita GDP increased from 84,000 yuan to 103,000 yuan.
In 2017, Feng added, Hohhot’s government made concerted efforts to alleviate poverty, control and reduce pollution and reduce unemployment, creating a better living environment for its citizens.
