More than 2,000 arctic foxes from Denmark landed in Qingdao, East China's Shandong province, on Tuesday night after a 10-hour flight. The foxes weigh more than 40 ton and are valued at more than 10 million yuan, the largest number and the highest value ever in China's import of foxes, said Zhan Yifei, an official from Qingdao Airport Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

After strict on-spot inspection, the foxes will be transported to Weifang of Shandong province for quarantine, said Zhan.

The foxes have been imported by Heilongjiang Bolong Animal husbandry Limited Liability Company, which will raise and breed them in Mohe, a county at the highest latitude in China. Bolong is a leading company specializing in fox fur business.

The arctic fox, also known as white fox, polar fox, snow fox and blue fox, is an incredibly hardy animal that can survive frigid Arctic temperatures as low as –58°F in the treeless lands where it makes its home.
